NoKel Services announces the publication of our first book,
"Practical Tools and Techniques
for Software Development."
The sub-title of the book says it all:
"A Computer Science/Information Technology curriculum companion.
Helping students to write better software and also (hopefully) gain an advantage when job hunting."
So who is the book for?
- Soon-to-be graduates of Bachelors, Associates, or Certificate programs in Computer
Science or Information Technology with a desire to work as a software developer in a team environment,
large or small.
- Recent graduates who may have had interview questions about source control, test driven
development, or refactoring and want to know more about those and other topics.
- Internship programs that want to introduce enterprise tools and techniques to quickly
bring interns up to speed.
- New-hire programs to familiarize new programmers with tools and techniques not taught in
school.
Taken directly from the preface:
"In addition, several of these tools and topics are the ‘extra’ goodies that employers look for experience
working with or having a basic understanding of. In discussions with industry hiring managers and
technology recruiters, the author has been told repeatedly that fresh college graduates, while
having the theoretical knowledge to be hired, often times are lacking in more practical areas
such as version control systems, unit testing skills, debugging techniques, interpreting business
requirements, and others. This is not to slight or degrade institutional instruction, only to
point out that there are tools and techniques that are part of enterprise software development
that don’t fit well within the confines of an educational environment. Knowledge of these can
give a student an advantage over those are unfamiliar with them."
